March 25, 2016. A special photo trip to the Wiscasset, Waterville and Farmington Railway Museum, Alna, Maine. Located near Wiscasset, the narrow gauge museum is located on what was the original right of way for the railroad in the early 20th century. Museum volunteers have meticulously restored much of the equipment that ran on this line many years ago, including locomotive #9. The restoration of this unit was only recently completed after several years of effort. At one time in the early 20th century the narrow gauge railroads played an important role in the development of commerce in Maine. Cheaper to build than standard gauge, there were several different narrow gauge railroads in Maine. There several good books on the topic of the "2 footers of Maine."
