  • The tracks seem to disappear into the forest.  This was once the line of the Maine Central from Portland, Maine to St. Johnsbury, Vermont.  This scene is in East Conway, New Hampshire (0214)

  • I was exploring western Maine yesterday. The little sign by the side of the road in West Newfield advertised "pottery and antiques." Always on the hunt for more stuff that I don't really need, I readily made the turn. Just beyond the gallery I saw this old mill by a pond. Meticulously maintained, it is now a private residence.   • This old mill by the side of the road in Maine must have had quite a history, but it now sits quietly decaying. I could hear rushing water, and making my way around through the woods to the back, I found the scene in the second photo. I cannot imagine what is keeping this building from falling into the pond.   • The next 5 shots are from Choate Island, Ipswich, Massachusetts.  To the locals, this is also known as Hoggs Island.  The property is part of the Crane Estate, and is managed by the Trustees of Reservations. I had never had an opportunity to get out there, so the opportunity to see this place up close was quite a thrill.

  • North of Fryeburg, Maine, along Route 113, which heads north toward Evans Notch along the New Hampshire border, is one of the most scenic and peaceful areas of the White Mountains. Less people, less travelled, harder to get to…here are a couple shots from last Saturday

  • The early morning in the mountains can be magical, especially in the fall. The changing light reflects the moods of the mountains, as captured in the attached photos. In the first one the fog refuses to give up the hold on the valley as the sun rises higher in the morning sky. Just down the street from this shot is one of my favorite abandoned barns...I could see the sun way up the road, but the fog hung in there. (I always worry that the barn will be gone the next time I come by as there is a for sale sign on the property.) I have shot the barn many times, in many different seasons. The first shot is in the fog. I waited for the fog to lift for the added shots...

  • A freight servicing B&M Beans in Portland, Maine in 2013. In the background, looking south, is the narrow gauge engine approaching the out of service bridge, a rare catch.  This photo appeared in "Railpace" Magazine. Once the Grand Trunk main line to Canada, it is now out of service.
